Dayton women’s basketball picked to finish 2nd in A-10

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team has high hopes for another successful season and a lot of respect from opposing coaches in its conference, too.

The UD women’s basketball team today was selected to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches poll, according to our news partner Dayton Daily News.

The Flyers received 177 points and two first-place votes. George Washington, which received the other 12 first-place votes, is the preseason favorite.

Dayton senior Amber Deane was named to the A-10’s preseason all-conference first team. Teammates Kelley Austria and Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova were second- and third-team selections, respectively. Austria and Cornelie-Sigmundova were named to the preseason all-defensive team.

Dayton went 28-7 last season and advanced to the Elite Eight with wins over Iowa State, Kentucky and Louisville. The Flyers fell to eventual national champion UConn in the Elite Eight.

The Flyers host Gannon at 7 p.m., Nov. 6, in an exhibition game, then open the regular season at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 13 at UD Arena against Yale.
