Take it from me: people are very, very passionate about patios.
The results of the “best patio in the Dayton area” poll I first posted on this blog back in March should be enough evidence for anyone who doesn’t take my word for it.
Nearly 1,000 votes were cast for the more than 30 patios we listed, and there were more than 30 write-in votes for other patios.
The “you pick” poll was a reaction to the list of 13 kickass patios in the Dayton area we pulled together a few weeks before.
Two patios clobbered the rest in the unscientific poll, which closed Monday, August 10.
TJ Chumps, located at 12 E Linden Ave. in downtown Miamisburg, grabbed the most votes at a whopping 191.
The patio seats about 150 people and is a great spot for people and/or game watching, with lots of TVs and good food.
“There are not too many places like it in the area,” said Nick Estep, the location’s general manager.
The Trolley Stop, a personal favorite at 530 E. Fifth Street in Dayton’s Oregon District, came in second place with 151 votes.
Co-owner Robin Sassenberg described her patio as being “like a warm summer night, relaxing and peaceful and exciting all at the same time.”
The patio can fit about 50 and is decorated with annual flowers and herbs. Hop vines grow up the wall. It is real, real chill.
There are tons of great patios to check out before the weather gets all foul, but no one else really came close to TJ Chumps or Trolley on the poll.
Some honorable mentions include Fifth Street Brewpub in St. Anne’s Hill. Its beer garden-style patio grabbed 79 votes.
Also worth noting is The Dock Food and Spirits — a seafood restaurant well worth the drive to Enon — which came in fourth place with 68 votes.
