Big cheers Junior League; 950 books donated for 95 years

Here is a belated shout-out to the awesome dames at the Junior League of Dayton.

The City of Dayton issued a formally proclaimed Wednesday, April 15, Junior League of Dayton Literacy Day to recognize the service organization’s new community focus on literacy.

That very day, JLD’s new member class delivered more than a thousand books to restock the library at Frank Nicholas Elementary School in Moraine.

JLD had 26 new members this year.

The goal was 950 books, 10 books for every year of JLD’s existence.

JLD was inducted into the Association of Junior Leagues International in February 1920.

This is National Library Week.

The donated books came from JLD members and the community.

As always, JLD members used their creativity to get the job done.

An Amazon.com book registry wish list was created in February featuring a request from the school’s teachers. JLD had a Barnes & Noble book fair that collected books and more than $1,000.

Greenpoint Metals in Franklin contributed $1,000 worth of books.

 Good job,  ladies.
